Founding of soccer in the Napa Valley and driving a love for the game to our community.
We wanted to pay homage to the man who started it all in 1839, George C. Yount. George C. Yount planted the first grapes in the Napa Valley. What better way to remember such historic significance in the Napa Valley by wearing the 1839 on our team crest.

Before running his wife’s rheumatology medical practice, Josh travelled throughout the US playing soccer, studying, and operating his own businesses. Raised in Southern California, Josh went on to play goalkeeper in Indiana before transferring to Saint Vincent College in Pennsylvania. After earning his MBA at Webster University in Missouri, Josh moved to Florida with his wife, Brittany. They owned and operated several businesses while his wife continued her medical studies. Once Brittany finished her specialty training in rheumatology, the couple sold their operations and moved west. Brittany now owns a rheumatology group practice in Napa, Brittany L. Goss D.O. The NPSL provides an opportunity for our community to come together to share the joy of soccer. Soccer teams throughout the world put aside their differences to cheer on their team and the same will hold true in Napa. The NPSL also provides an opportunity for our best players to reach their goals of becoming professional athletes with the chance to represent their county.
My name is Arik Housley, partner of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) team Napa Valley 1839 FC. My worst-kept secret is that I’m a Chelsea Football Club supporter. I have marched to Stamford Bridge – the stadium where the Blues play their home matches – singing with complete strangers. We all had one goal: revel in the experience of truly great soccer! While I know Dodd Stadium of 2,000 cannot compare to Stamford Bridge, we can recreate that environment where fans of our Napa Valley 1839 Football Club all join in one voice and cheer on one team.
As the current president of Napa United Soccer Club, it has been my dream to see our youth continue to play the best soccer possible beyond high school and club and for our community to rally behind them. I dream of any child – of any background – getting a chance to play in front of a large stadium of fan. Napa is an amazing and diverse community and soccer is the only activity that I know of, where the sons and daughters of our community, regardless of background, get the chance to be on one team.
The NPSL is a pathway for our young men to pursue their dreams (hopefully our young women too, some day). For me, the NPSL is a chance to experience the joy of the beautiful game in Napa. Whether you root for West Ham, Fiorentina, Cruz Azul, or my beloved Chelsea, the love for the game is what prevails. Come out to our home matches and lets make some Dodd stadium rumble as we cheer on our local NPSL team Napa Valley 1839 FC.
Truly, Arik Housley Founding Member and Owner Napa Valley 1839 FC
Head Coach, Rogelio Ochoa, was born and raised in Napa. Having graduated from Vintage High School in 2004, he attended UC Davis, where he earned his B.A. in Spanish, Ethnic Studies and Education in 2009. Wanting to work in education, he attended the Bilingual Multicultural Education Credential program at Sacramento State University, where he earned his single-subject credential in Spanish. Soon after, in 2011, Coach Ochoa became a Spanish and AVID teacher at Napa High School; however, because of his passion for coaching, he returned to school and received his M.A. in Coaching and Athletic Administration (MCAA) from Concordia University, Irvine in 2016. Coach Ochoa is married to Veronica Aguayo-Ochoa, who was also a teacher at Napa High School until 2018. The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is the successor of the Men’s Premier Soccer League (MPSL), which formed in 2002. In 2005, the league was recreated into an expanded national league to accommodate teams from the Midwest region, and in 2007 a Northeastern region was added. In 2008, the National Premier Soccer League became a truly national league with the addition of the Southeast region.
The NPSL is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) as an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the ruling body for soccer in the United States and FIFA the world’s ruling body for soccer. Integrity, Success, and Longevity are what the National Premier Soccer League stands for. The NPSL operates and is managed as a team run league.
