Napa Valley 1839 FC won its first game of the season on Saturday night, defeating CD Aguiluchos USA, 1-0, in a National Premier Soccer League-Golden Gate Division match at Napa Memorial Stadium.
It was the last home game of the 2017 season for Napa Valley 1839 FC (1-5-5), a first-year men’s team.
In the 36th minute, a penalty was awarded to Napa Valley 1839 FC after Eduardo “Lalo” Blancas took a shot and a CD Aguiluchos USA player put his hand on it. Francisco Mendoza converted the penalty in the 37th minute.
Blancas, 15, had his best performance of the season as he played well, challenging the CD Aguiluchos USA defense and caused numerous goal-scoring opportunities.
Napa Valley 1839 FC goalkeeper Javier Valdez Raya came up big, as he had a crucial 1 on 1 save later in the second half.
The midfield was led by Osvaldo “Balon” Vasquez along with Nomialay Hashim, who played very well and led the team to pressuring the CD Aguiluchos USA defense.
Kyle Gavce, Adrian Calderon, Ryan Johnson and Juan Acosta had solid defensive performances.
Napa Valley 1839 FC wraps up the season on July 8 with a match at Sonoma Sol.
